This is the first single off Tunnel Of Love, about conflicts and doubts in an intimate relationship. Seems to deal with Springsteen's troubled marriage to his first wife, Julianne Phillips, although he claims it is not directly autobiographical.

Dilbert

Dilbert (first published April 16, 1989) is an American comic strip written and drawn by Scott Adams. Dilbert is known for its satirical humor about a white-collar, micromanaged office, featuring the engineer Dilbert as the title character. The strip has spawned several books, an animated television series, a computer game, and hundreds of Dilbert-themed merchandise items.


Adams has also received the National Cartoonist Society Reuben Award and Newspaper Comic Strip Award in 1997 for his work on the strip. Dilbert appears in 2500 newspapers worldwide in 65 countries and 19 languages with over 150 million fans. [download link]


FoxTrot

FoxTrot is a daily American comic strip written and illustrated by Bill Amend centering on the daily lives of the Fox family; Andy, Roger, Paige, Peter, and Jason. It has been published since 1988, and is translated into many other languages, including Spanish, Portuguese and Swedish.

The strip covers a wide range of subject matter, including spoofs of pop culture "fads" and popular consumer products. As a Mac owner, Amend has been known to "heartlessly beat upon Microsoft" in his strips. [download link]

Garfield is a comic strip created by Jim Davis, featuring the cat Garfield, the pet dog Odie, and their socially inept owner Jon Arbuckle. As of 2006, it is syndicated in roughly 2,570 newspapers and journals and it currently holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip. The popularity of the strip has led to an animated cartoon show, several animated television specials and two feature-length live-action films, as well as a large amount of Garfield-related merchandise. Calvin & Hobbes

Calvin is a fictional character in the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson. He is one of the strip's primary characters, along with Hobbes. Calvin first appeared in the first strip of the comic and in the very first panel. The first dialogue in the strip was Calvin's line, "So long, pop. I'm off to check my tiger trap". অর্ফিয়ুসের চিরযাত্রা

স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের শ্রেষ্ঠ কবি শামসুর রাহমান; ইতিহাসের সব পালাবদলের সাক্ষী তার কবিতা....দীর্ঘ একটি সময়কে ধারণ করে আছেন তিনি।

আসাদের শার্ট, বর্ণমালা, স্বাধীনতা, নূর হোসেন...এ সবকিছু আরো মানবিক, আরো সরল মহিমান্বিত হয়ে ফুটে উঠেছে তার কবিতায়; মূর্ত হয়ে ধরা দিয়েছে আমাদের যান্ত্রিক চেতনায়...কবিতায় অনভ্যস্ত আমিও তাই তার প্রভাবমুক্ত নই।

গ্রীক পুরাণে কবিতা ও সঙ্গীতের প্রতীক ছিলেন অর্ফিয়ুস --- মৃত্যুর পরও যার গান থেমে যায়নি...বরং কাল জয় করে ঐশ্বরিক প্রতিভার প্রতিরূপ হয়ে আছেন। শামসুর রাহমান তেমনি বেঁচে আছেন তার অজেয় পংক্তিমালায়, আমাদের ইতিহাসে-স্মৃতিতে।

অর্ফিয়ুস এর কাছে মৃত্যু মানে....অমরত্বের পথে চিরযাত্রা।

A journey by car

12 তারিখ রাতে উল্লাস এর sms "come 2 my home asap 2moro morning. i hav scheduled 2 go Dhaka 2moro morning. come b4 9am. i will wait. address:....." মর্মার্থ উদ্ধার করতে পারলাম না। পরদিন সকালে আনু কে দেখাতে বললো "উল্লুক মনে হয় ফাইজ্লামি করছে।" উল্লাস এর পরিহাস প্রবনতার উপর আস্থা রেখে আমার বাসা থেকে সকাল সাতটায় রওনা হলাম - আমি, আনোয়ার, জেনান, সিফাত।

সমস্যা দেখা দিলো মনন কে রাস্তা থেকে pick up করার পর...কে কোথায় বসবে। তুমুল বিতর্কের পর ঠিক হলো, সবচেয়ে মোটা লোকটি বসবে সামনে। আমি "সবচেয়ে মোটা" হবার দাবি জানালাম, কিন্তু দেখা গেলো সিফাত এর ওজন আমার থেকেও আট কেজি বেশি। কি আর করা; পেছনের সিটে গাদাগাদি করে বাকি চারজন বসলাম...চাপের চোটে দম বন্ধ হয়ে আসার জোগাড়। খালি মাথা ছাড়া আর কিছুই নড়াতে পারছি না।

আমাদের ড্রাইভার মুজিব ভাই নিপাট ভদ্রলোক। তার ভালোমানুষির সুযোগ নিয়ে বাস, ট্রাক, এমনকি রিক্সাও ওভারটেক করে যেতে লাগলো। দুই ঘন্টার রাস্তা চার ঘন্টায় অতিক্রম করে অবশেষে বেলা এগারোটায় ময়মনসিংহ পৌছলাম।

শহরটি বিশেষত্বহীন, তবে মানুষজনের পরোপকারিতা আমাদের মুগ্ধ করলো। যাকেই ঠিকানা জিঞ্জেস করি, সবারই সরল উত্তর "এই রাস্তা ধরে সোজা চলে যান"। সোজা রাস্তায় এক ঘন্টা ঘুরপাক খাবার পর উল্লাস এর বাসা খুজে পাওয়া গেলো। বাসায় ঢুকতেই sms এর গূঢ় অর্থ পরিস্কার...আন্টি জানালেন সে আজ সকালে ঢাকায় চলে গেছে।

কি আর করা, ভরপেট খিচুড়ী খেয়ে আর উল্লুক কে যথাসম্ভব অশালীন ভাষায় গালিগালাজ করে আবার পথে নামলাম। দারোয়ান এর কাছে শহরের দর্শনীয় স্থান এর কথা জিঞ্জেস করাতে বললেন....একটি রাজবাড়ি কাম মহিলা টিচার্স ট্রেনিং কলেজ আছে। পথও বাতলে দিলেন "এই রাস্তা ধরে সোজা চলে যান"।

রাজবাড়ি গিয়ে আমরা হতাশ, একটি বিবসনা নারী মুর্তি ছাড়া আর কিছুই নেই। তারই গোটা কয়েক ছবি তুলে রওনা দিলাম বাকৃবি 'র উদ্দেশ্যে।

বাকৃবি'র কাছে এসে নতুন সমস্যা দেখা দিলো...সেখানের স্পীড ব্রেকার গুলো মনে হয় বেশি উচু, গাড়ি আটকে যাচ্ছে। তাই স্পীড ব্রেকার আসতেই পেছনের সবাইকে নেমে পড়তে হলো। প্রায় 15 বার ওঠনামার পর গিয়ে ক্যাম্পাসে পৌছালাম।

এর মধ্যে মনন তার এক বড় ভাই এর প্রাক্তন রুমমেট এর নাম্বার যোগাড় করে ফেলেছে....মুন্না নাম ছেলেটার। সে, তার বন্ধু লাতিফ এবং আমাদের স্কুলের বন্ধু শিশির - এই তিনজন আমাদের নিয়ে বের হলো ঘুরে দেখাতে। বিশাল ক্যাম্পাস, সবকিছুতেই পরিকল্পনার ছাপ। আমাদের ক্যাম্পাস এর সাথে আয়তন এবং সৌন্দর্যের তুলনা করে দীর্ঘশ্বাস ফেললাম।

এর পরের চার ঘন্টা কাটলো ব্রহ্মপুত্র নদে নৌকাভ্রমণ, খাওয়াদাওয়া, এবং মাইল দশেক হাটাহাটি করে। সন্ধ্যা সাতটায় ক্লান্ত হয়ে আবার চেপে বসলাম গাড়িতে, নিসর্গের চেয়ে বেশি তিনজন প্রায় অপরিচিত বন্ধুর আতিথেয়তার স্মৃতি নিয়ে। পরের দিন পরীক্ষা থাকা সত্ত্বেও যারা অকৃপন হাতে আমাদের জন্য হাসিমুখে সময় ব্যয় করেছে।


ঢাকায় ফেরার পথে তেমন উল্লেখযোগ্য কিছু ঘটেনি, শুধু গাজিপুরের কাছে এসে টায়ার বার্স্ট হলো। সবাই মিলে দায়ভার চাপালাম সিফাতের উপর। চিরাচরিত যানজট পেরিয়ে বাসায় গেলাম রাত 11টায়। সব আনন্দের কথা ভুলে মাথায় তখন একটাই চিন্তা........"ঘুম"।

বন্ধু মানেই...

সকাল সাড়ে সাতটায় বাস থেকে নামার পর, বাড়ি ফেরার আগ পর্যন্ত ক্যাম্পাসে বন্ধু পরিবৃত হয়ে থাকি। এখানেই শেষ নয়...রাতে আবার টেলিফোন "দোস্ত... ডাটা গুলা দে" অথবা, "ডিসকাশন কি লিখছিস?"। তারপর আরেকটু রাতে msn এ খেজুরে আলাপ..."ei site ta dekh :P"। এবং ছুটির দিনে থাকে অন্য কারো বাড়িতে "attack" দেয়ার পরিকল্পনা (মাঝে মাঝে পাল্টা আক্রমনেরও শিকার হতে হয়)।


আমাদের কাছে তাই বন্ধু দিবস অর্থহীন ...একদিনের আনুষ্ঠানিকতায় বন্ধুত্ব আর কতটুকু সমৃদ্ধ হবে, যা কিনা দীর্ঘদিনের সাহচর্যে বেড়ে উঠেছে।

তারপরও আজকেই লিখছি, কারন এই ধীর লয়ের একঘেয়ে অবসরে বন্ধুদের কথাই বেশি মনে পড়ছে। হল এর পোলাপান বেশির ভাগই বাড়িতে, বানিজ্যের মায়ায় কয়েকজন শুধু রয়ে গেছে। দীর্ঘদিনের অদর্শন (এবং কর্মহীনতার ক্লান্তি) তাই বাধ্য করলো লৌকিকতার আশ্রয় নিতে।

বন্ধুত্ব নিয়ে এই মুহুর্তে কোন ভালো গান মনে পড়ছে না, তাই একটা কবিতা দিলাম-

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition with lyrics written by Roger Waters and music written by Waters, Richard Wright, and David Gilmour. It was first perfomed on their 1974 tour. It was recorded for the 1975 album Wish You Were Here.



The composition is a tribute to former band member Syd Barrett. Lyrics show strong appreciation for the contributions Barrett made to the band. The song's title also echoes Syd's name: Shine on You crazy Diamond.

Syd Barrett, the psychedelic pioneer, was Pink Floyd's original frontman in the early years. Barrett was a guitarist, singer and lyricist with Pink Floyd at its inception in 1965 and was recognised as a psychedelic musical innovator and important songwriting talent.

But his onstage behaviour became increasingly erratic as his LSD consumption compounded deep-rooted mental difficulties. He disappeared from the public eye, giving his last interview in 1971 and living quietly at his Cambridge home untill his death.

Syd leaves an extraordinary legacy that still rings strongly through popular music and likely always will. The Madcap still laughs...only in a different oz.

In the song "Dark Globe" he asks...

Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?"

The answer to that is undoubtebly yes. Yes, we will miss you Syd.

Shahadat Hossain took Bangladesh's first one-day international hat-trick

Shahadat's hat-trick in the 39th over crashed Zimbabwe from 151-4 to 151-7.

Tafadzwa Mufambisi edged the third ball of the over to wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud for eight.

Shahadat's next ball was full and straight, and it trapped Elton Chigumbura plumb in front. Prosper Utseya then edged a wide delivery into Mashud's gloves.

Stuck....can't get out of It

I should be reading now, preaparing for my upcoming exam on 5th Aug. But instead of that, I am writing here in this blog, thinking about nothingness and other philosophies of life. The following news repot may explain this "engineer turned philosopher" kinda thing.

Buet closed indefinitely
Students vandalise teachers' cars, houses demanding exam deferment

Authorities of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) in an urgent notice yesterday announced the university closed sine die following a violent student movement demanding deferment of examinations.

The authorities also directed the students to vacate all the dormitories by 5:00pm yesterday 'to ensure security of life and property and to bring back a congenial atmosphere of education' on the campus.


The notice came from an hour-long emergency meeting of teachers yesterday.

At least 30 people were injured when the students demonstrating for deferment of examinations clashed with police on Buet campus Sunday night.

Hearing the authorities' decision, angry students vandalised two dormitories yesterday noon. But they left the campus by the deadline for evacuation.

However, they vowed to continue with their new demands - resignation of the vice-chancellor (VC) and the director of students' welfare (DSW) - when the university reopens after the unscheduled closure.

Demonstrators on late Sunday night demanded resignation of the VC and the DSW for their 'failure to maintain law and order on the campus', keeping four teachers confined at Suhrawardi Hall, who were let go at about 3:30am yesterday.

In a written statement signed by Buet Registrar Md shahjahan, the authorities accused the demonstrators of vandalising about 15 cars of teachers and their houses at teachers' quarters on Sunday night.

The authorities said the students began demonstrating unreasonably on the campus from July 29 demanding deferment of examinations scheduled to begin on August 1, locked the main entrance of Buet and spoke ill of the authorities.

The authorities also said the VC wanted to talk to the students about their demands but they did not sit with the administration and rather vandalised university property.

The scheduled examinations were to begin from May 28 but as the students demanded that the authorities defer the exams for World Cup Football, the authorities complied and announced a fresh schedule for the examinations from August 1.

Sources in the university administration said the authorities will take 'disciplinary actions' against the students who are responsible for 'making the campus unstable'. However, the authorities have yet to form any committee to identify the responsible.

Yesterday noon, VC Prof M Alee Murtuza and some teachers visited the teachers' quarters and the dormitories, where the students carried out vandalism during the clashes with police. Talking to journalists during the visit many teachers expressed their resentments over the students' 'ferocity'.

"The authorities will form a probe committee soon and the responsible will be punished," the VC said at a news briefing at the Council Building of BUET last evening.

Asked when BUET will reopen, he said, "We will reopen in the shortest time possible when the situation will be under control."

A huge contingent of police remains deployed on the campus to avert further untoward incidents.
